CR Johnson Birthday Rafting with High Fives

Friday August 10th, 2012 was CR Johnson's birthday, and IRIE was pleased to help High Fives and many of CR's friends and family celebrate the day with our annual rafting fundraiser.  Thanks to the hard work and generosity of many cool and dedicated people, IRIE was able to take 51 (yes, FIFTY ONE) people rafting on the Mighty Truckee River and to donate $2,000.00 to High Fives.  Additional props go out to The Full Belly Deli for feeding all the hungry rafters at a great reception at the amazing new CR Johnson Healing Center in Truckee.

Here's a link to the 5-1-1 E-Newsletter  which gives us a shout out and also has lots of other interesting info about the many great events and projects that High Fives is involved in.  Check it out, and please think about subscribing!

Yes, We Have Water!

It's a sunny June 1st afternoon here at IRIE Rafting HQ. Our morning Truckee trip just came back all smiles and stories about big excitement in Jaws rapid. That's right, my fellow humans, rafting season is already well upon us. We've been running trips for the past month or so on rivers all over the region, including loads of fun commercial trips on the Truckee, and the only thing we're missing is you.

There have been some rumors going around that there won't be any water in the rivers this season due to the small snowpack we experienced this past winter. Well, no one here is going to deny that it was a pretty disappointing ski season, but luckily that doesn't mean we won't have a good whitewater boating season. Thanks to guaranteed dam releases, we will have 7-day-a-week rafting all summer long. This includes class III rafting on the mighty Truckee River, and class IV rafting on the Middle Fork American River going, through Labor Day at least.

So put aside those sour memories of missed powder days, bust out your board shorts and bikinis and get ready for a great summer of whitewater action with IRIE. We're here every day.

New Truckee River Mile by Mile on California Creeks.

We're stoked to announce that our new description of the 18 miles of the Truckee River between Boca Dam and Crystal Peak State Park (Verdi, NV) has been published on the California Creeks Website.  Here's the direct link to our mile by mile, which we're proud to say includes lots of cool photos like this one:

As mentioned in our feature piece in the Reno Gazette-Journal earlier this Spring, we are pleased to be offering an exciting full day white water rafting trip on this stretch of the Truckee River and have had the opportunity to run it quite a bit since early May both with commercial guests and on fun guide training trips.  We hope that sharing the up-to-date information and photos that we've gathered during these trips will encourage other boaters in the community to come explore this scenic and exciting class III+ white water corridor.

Although many people here at IRIE contributed to this project, we'd especially like to thank our Operations Manager Erik for creating the final write up and of course, Bill Tuthill from California Creeks for being so receptive to our contributions and handling the web publishing of our submission.
